My Tin Toys

This is a neat little toy made in Japan by TPS. The train is attached to a wire with a counterweight on it. As the can is moved the train goes around the track.

This is a toy for very young children. Ages six and below. A seven year old would be quickly bored by this toy.

I think there are different versions of lithography on the outside of the can.

These Tippy Toys aren’t expensive. They aren’t desirable either.

Although Buddy L is famous for the pressed steel toys made in the 1920s and 30s, this isn’t an old toy. It’s from 1976. What’s neat about it is the condition. It’s brand new in the original box.

I got this with some toy trains, and I think the person who bought it planned on putting the set on his train layout, but never did. The pieces may have never been removed from the box before I took the pictures.

Comes with a shiny metal ramp, a Coca-Cola forklift truck with removable case of Coke bottles, three more cases of coke bottles, a Coca-Cola semi truck with a trailer containing five more cases of coke and a handcart, a smaller pickup style Coke truck with two cases of soda, and a Buddy L wish book catalog.

Made in Japan to Buddy L specifications. Any Coke collector would love this set. With so many instant “collectibles” available to find something made as a toy that has never been played with is rare.

This is a neat toy. Mobo red and yellow tin plate turtle. Made in England in the late 1940s or early 1950s, this Mobo turtle moves forward when the handle is squeezed.

My dad found this somewhere and thought it was neat - or it was cheap - probably both, so he brought it home.

I never paid any attention to it until I found a Mobo Bronco. I’ll add pictures of the horse later.

Turtle says “I’m the MOBO toy-toise, I lead you follow!” on bottom.

Each leg has a wheel with a locking bar on it. The locking bar allows the wheel to move forward only. This is what causes the turtle to move when the hand grip is squeezed.

MOBO TOYS were made by D. SEBEL & CO. from 1947 to 1972 in England.

This is a beach or sandbox toy made by Ohio Art. The pails and shovels are highly collectible, but these pumps are usually ignored.

This toy pump works. You put water in the base, and pumping the handle causes water to come out of the spot.

This dates from the late 1950s.

The image above shows a close up of a little girl with a pail on a beach. You can also see the elephant on the pump pole. Collectors buy these based on the graphics printed on them and the condition.

A really rare and desirable beach toy in poor condition is worth almost nothing. Condition is that important.

This is an American Flyer toy Cash Register. This is Chicago Flyer from the early 1930s. In 1938, AC Gilbert - the founder of the Erector Set - bought American Flyer from the Coleman family and moved production to New Haven Connecticut.

I bought this toy cash register in 1985 at a flea market in New Jersey for a few dollars. I carried it back to Arizona with me on the plane because it wouldn’t fit in my suitcase.

I still remember that flight because it was the last out of Newark for People’s Express. The airline called a plane to Denver at 10:30, and we got in line to board. Turned out that was the 7:30 flight. Our flight didn’t end up leaving until 2 am. It was a madhouse.

Anyway, back to this old American Flyer cash register. This originally came with a key, some paper money and some cast metal coins. The coins are inside it along with the key, but the paper money is long gone.

This isn’t a register bank, it’s just a toy cash register. I have other toy cash registers and register banks I’ll post pictures of later. This American Flyer is the biggest toy cash register I have.
