L.M. Cox Thimble Drome Racers

Cox Thimble Drome Racers

These were my dad’s when he was a kid. I think they date from the late 1940s, or early 1950s. Made by L.M. Cox and called Thimble Drome Racers. I think the name refers to the small gas powered motors and the sound they make.

These Cox cars aren’t gas powered. The black racer is a pull toy. The blue cox racer is a windup. I’ve had a few gas powered versions of these over the years, but never kept one.

These Thimble Drome racers aren’t tin. They are cast out of white metal. Might be aluminum.. Cox later made lots of gas powered racers, but these early ones are still my favorites.

1930s Marx Tin Gas Station

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Marx Service Station

This is a cool little building. It’s a Louis Marx Gas Station. Some would call it a Service Station. Looks great with Marx toy trains.

I think there may have been racks of oil or tires on the front. There are slots in the gray base, but no scratches. Maybe Marx sold it in plain and deluxe versions and this is a plain one? Whether it’s missing something or not, it still a great model of a 1930s gas station

Marx Gas Station

Marx made quite a few different types of Gas Stations. This one seems harder to find. I also have a roadside rest service station I’ll put pictures up of later.

Here’s a link so you can see more of these on eBay.

Wolverine Derrick Crane

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Wolverine Derrick

Wolverine derrick crane. This is a late 1930s lithographed tin toy. Over 17 inches tall. The crank on the bottom works both the hook and turns the crane depending on which position the lever is turned to.

Tthe crank on the upper housing is not supposed to be there. It might have been added by an owner over the years. This crank is visible in the photo of the crane below.
